JENNIFER LYNN BARNES

(Book 3 in the Inheritance Games)

Synopsis:

Avery’s fortune, life, and loves are on the line in the game that everyone will be talking about.

To inherit billions, all Avery Kylie Grambs has to do is survive a few more weeks living in Hawthorne House. The paparazzi are dogging her every step. Financial pressures are building. Danger is a fact of life. And the only thing getting Avery through it all is the Hawthorne brothers. Her life is intertwined with theirs. She knows their secrets, and they know her.

But as the clock ticks down to the moment when Avery will become the richest teenager on the planet, trouble arrives in the form of a visitor who needs her help—and whose presence in Hawthorne House could change everything. It soon becomes clear that there is one last puzzle to solve, and Avery and the Hawthorne brothers are drawn into a dangerous game against an unknown and powerful player.

Secrets upon secrets. Riddles upon riddles. In this game, there are hearts and lives at stake—and there is nothing more Hawthorne than winning.

The Final Gambit

My rating:  ★★★★★

Categories: YA, suspense, thriller, mystery, romance, contemporary, other

Content:

Language:  Semi-frequent use of minor language, one or two instances of stronger language

ViolenceKidnappings, mentions of murder, murder cover-ups, a few descriptions of blood and bruising, but nothing gory or explicit.  Manipulation and threats are a large part of the book.  A relationship between an adult and a young minor that resulted in a pregnancy are also discussed.

Sex: Short and non-descriptive kiss scenes, one taking place right after a shower.  It is implied that the main couple has sex multiple times, but nothing is explicitly stated (they sleep in the same bed and the male shirtless).

LGBTQ: There is a lesbian side couple.

My Review: The ending was a bit flat, but I still really enjoyed this book and am thrilled for the next installment in the Inheritance Games universe!  Like in the Naturals series, I've really grown to love Avery and the Hawthorne brothers.  Barnes' novels are always so fast-paced and entertaining, and The Final Gambit was no different.
